FUNNY 25 0852: And away we go with the Funny 25 for 2008....the 25 hottest and coolest songs of the year. Old and new, long and short, loud and soft, famous and infamous...nothing but the hits on this show! This week's "Rarities By Request" features some footnotes to the Funny 25 - "Robots" unbleeped, an earlier take of "Fish Heads," some 1980s work by Chris Mezzolesta of Power Salad, and, by popular demand, the original B-side of "They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-haa!" which is the same song backwards. CHRISTMAS/HANUKKAH #4 0851: With Christmas so close we can almost taste it, here's our final holiday show of 2008 -- with a hearty, hilarious helping of Hanukkah songs to spread the cheer around. All but three of the songs in this show are played for the first (and only) time this year. Once again we have an extended bonus tracks section, including a few items with explicit language. We've placed those at the end so that kids can cover their parents' ears at the appropriate time. Dec 21, 2008

CHRISTMAS #3 0850: Santa rides again (and has other strange experiences) in part 3 of our four-part Christmas Cavalcade of 2008. Lots of old favorites and a few very demented new things. I want to call special attention to the online-only bonus segment which has nine songs a bunch of people have asked for, that we just didn't have room for on the radio version this year. From now on the online-only segments will be transmitted at the end of the show (hope that's OK!) Dec 14, 2008

CHRISTMAS #2 0849: Here's show number two of our four-show holiday spectacular for 2008. Highlights include the ever-popular "Blue Christmas" (piggy style) by Seymour Swine & the Squeelers, "Ding! Fries are Done" by Billy from Burger King, and Robert Lund's stupendous new parody of the worst Christmas song ever, "The Christmas Shoes." And for our online listeners only...nothing nasty this time, just 20+ minutes of extreme rarities from way, way back in the Demento Archives. Dec 7, 2008

CHRISTMAS #1 0848: And awaaaay we go with our first Christmas spectacular for 2008. New and inspired songs, old and desired songs, stacks & stacks of 'em piled up every which way under our virtual radio Christmas tree. Everything we love about Christmas, and everything we hate, it's all here, and so is the Top Ten for November. I want to especially point out our x-rated, yes, that's X-RATED bonus segment, filled with some of the most outrageously irreverent holiday songs ever made! Be forewarned...lots of four-letter words and generally disgusting grossness. We've put it at the very end of our stream, making it easier for parents and others not inclined to listen to such things to turn it off without missing such gems as "An Axl Christmas" (in honor of the long-delayed Guns 'n Roses album), "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas" and "Kung Pao Buckaroo Holiday" (an ode to political incorrectness). We also have two tracks from the Bonzo Dog Band's reunion album (their first in 35 years) and some wild garage rock & R&B songs featured by Pittsburgh's radio wild man Mad Mike Metrovich. FRANK ZAPPA 0846: This week's show is entirely devoted to a tribute to Frank Zappa, commemorating the 15th anniversary of his death. It traces his career in roughly chronological fashion, concentrating on his humorous music but also exploring his R&B roots, and the avant-garde music which he considered to be his best work. Many interview excerpts from Frank's appearances on the Dr. Demento Show are included. This is not a repeat of our 1994 tribute show; it is newly written and produced. The online bonus segment comes at the end this time, and is much longer than usual (about 33 minutes). It features Frank introducing rare records from his personal collection, and also three Zappa favorites we can't play on the radio. IMPORTANT: Parental guidance is strongly suggested for the last three tracks in the online bonus segment; there is strong language and possibly objectionable subject matter. Nov 16, 2008

The online-only bonus segment includes a Firesign Theatre rarity -- both sides of a picture disc single released to commemorate the 1980 election. (Sorry, no pictures). TOP TEN 0839: Our online only "Rarities By Requests" set is worth your special attention this week. "A Tale of the Ticker," one of the few truly amusing songs about the stock market, was recorded in September 1929 just before the s**t in the fan for the biggest Wall Street dump of all time (so far!) Also featured is that timeless epic of backwoods automotive seduction, "Larry, Move Your Hand" and a primer on averting DWI problems, "Backwards XYZ's". I haven't even mentioned those four songs in a row about New Jersey, and the ones about Sarah Palin. And yes, the Top Ten for September is here. Sep 28, 2008

ONE-HIT WONDERS 0837: We salute One-Hit Wonders this week. A One-Hit Wonder is an artist who has great success with one song, then never has another hit worth reckoning with. In the 1950s and 1960s there were a great many one-hit wonders. Thatalso happened to be the Golden Age of Novelty Records, and we salute many of those. Toward the end of the show we also salute artists who had a single song place high on one or more of the Dr. Demento Show's year-end countdowns, but never enjoyed a followup hit. In the early part of the show we salute Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept. 17), and tip our top hat to the late Jerry Reed. Sep 14, 2008

LIVE IN STUDIO 0829: An extra-special show this week: Every song in the second hour of the show was recorded live on the Dr Demento Show, between the mid-1970s and the mid-2000's. Many of these performances haven't been heard since their original broadcast years ago. Tom Stankus' "Existential Blues" is especially exciting, with lots of elements not heard on the currently available recorded version (including those "Impossible Dream" lines). Along with the familiar September 1980 version of "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Another One Rides The Bus," online listeners (only) can hear Al's encore performance from April 1981...like "Existential Blues," this performance also has some extra added attractions.
