Also - nostalgic bits by TV stars Larry Storch and Max Headroom, great new funny music by Johnny Walker, and the scourge of Autotune. Also a tribute to Mitch Miller, who was a brilliant and highly successful record producer, and a superb classical musician, years before "Sing Along with Mitch." And, in the bonus tracks, Allan Sherman's very first record. Parental note: the s-word is heard in "Planet Dog" and in the Mitch Miller bonus track. Aug 14, 2010

Also: a pair of riotous spoofs of metal music, and a couple topical items about LeBron James. In the bonus tracks: two very different renditions of "My Way" (a song that can get you killed in certain Philippine karaoke bars) and a song by the late Tuli Kupferberg, Beat artist and co-founder of The Fugs. OCEAN/BEACH 1028: Our topic this week is the ocean...and the beach. Rarities include the complete two-part version of "A Day At The Beach" by Cheech & Chong (one part has never been reissued). There's also a fiddle tune by the late Sen. Robert Byrd (not bad, actually), the theme from Sandy Becker's legendary New York City kiddie TV show, and accordion-wielding 60s' comic Pete Barbutti. The bonus segment features the complete and uncensored "Legend of the U.S.S. Titanic" by Jaime Brockett (one s-word and considerable political incorrectness) and a recording made in 1897. There are even more of those than there are big songs, and here are about half of the most demented ones in the Demento Archives (we'll spin the rest in July). Bonus tracks include one of the best selling "kiddie" records of the 1940s - the original "Little Toot" featuring Jack Benny's announcer Don Wilson. GOLDEN ERA OF NOVELTY SONGS 1020: This show celebrates the Golden Era of Novelty Hit Singles...the years from 1956 to 1966, when more than 200 novelty singles hit the Top 100, and were often heard on Top 40 radio stations (all day long, not just in the morning!) Along with all-time hits we have some very unusual and interesting items that have never been on the show before. MOTHER'S DAY 1019: Here's our Mother's Day show for 2010, with a mix of perennials along with some we haven't heard for awhile. The station where the Dr. D show began always played music by Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention on Mother's Day, and we're glad to continue the tradition with Frank's early masterpiece "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" plus some of Frank's more outrageous satires for the bonus tracks. (Parental discretion encouraged -- lots of rough language and a couple of songs Frank may well have devised especially to create controversy!) HAPPY 1018: We have a very "happy" show for you this time...featuring a big stack of songs with the word "happy" in the title or prominent in the lyrics. While some are all about being happy, and nothing else, others are full of darkly ironic humor. The bonus tracks include three finalists in the most recent International Songwriting Competition (for which Weird Al and I were among the judges) plus new songs by Strapped (you may remember their underground hit " (Whip Me Beat Me Call Me) Edna". EASTER/BASEBALL 1014: Two big days this weekend: Easter Sunday, and the opening of baseball season. (In some cities both events take place on the same day). We also salute the late Fess Parker, with his own version of "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" plus two of the many parodies that song inspired. ST. PATRICK'S DAY 1011: We salute St. Patrick's Day. It may well be, as songwriter Marc Gunn claims, that St. Patrick never drank (Guinness hadn't been invented yet), but many a hearty song has been raised in his memory, and some of them are very funny! Also notable: the Dr D Show debut of the comedy supergroup Cirque du SoWhat (each of whose four members has previously had a #1 song of the year on the show), a comedy sketch about the U.S. census recorded in 1930, and what is arguably one of the worst records ever made, ever, "The Air Battle." CHRISTMAS 0950: Here's Part Two of our three-part holiday celebration for 2009, with half a dozen Chanukah carols joining our rollicking roster of Yuletide hilarities. WARNING: the bonus tracks this week are what we might call an Anti-Christmas show...songs that are not in what's usually called the Christmas spirit, and are absolutely not recommended for children...but you've told us how much you love these songs that we mostly can't play on radio, so here they are. THANKSGIVING 0947: Here's our Happy Thanksgiving show for 2009. We celebrate the consumption of turkey and other festive foods...but we also remember that other meaning of the word "turkey" to denote a movie, play or song that is extremely bad. To that end, we bring back this week the Audio Torture Chamber, a feature some listeners might remember from the 1980s. We visit the Chamber at the end of each segment (except the last one). Notable among the bonus tracks is "Turkish Delight," a 1932 British comedy record spoofing the cultural traditions of Baghdad and other Middle Eastern localities. (Warning: politically incorrect). MARIJUANA 0946: Our topic this week is marijuana. We've never made the evil weed a main topic before -- it's still illegal, after all -- but there are thousands of songs about it. We're only scratching the surface, but here's a nice little survey of the best of the more humorous marijuana melodies. The bonus tracks include some rare gems from the 1930s. (As is our custom, the first two segments offer a variety of new and old funny songs on other subjects). Nov 15, 2009

FANTASY TOP 25 0945: Something we haven't tried before this week...we present a "fantasy countdown" compiled by listener Steve Szeli of Newburgh, NY. This is essentially a countdown of Steve's favorite demented songs. It contains a nice mix of classic Demented hits with some items not heard all that often. We hope to present more "fantasy countdowns" on an occasional basis in the future, and we invite you to send your list! (Use the "request a song" feature at www.drdemento.com). The "bonus tracks" are some deserving new songs we somehow haven't been able to fit into the regular show. There are a couple of naughty words here and there. Nov 8, 2009

Lou Albano, and Soupy Sales) which is sad but also lots of fun. The Bonus Tracks include some real rarities...Jimmie Cross' rarely heard followup to "I Want My Baby Back," early efforts from Ray Stevens and Sly Stone (one of the Stewart Brothers) - each of these artists made records for almost a decade before finding real success - and an alternate version of Captain Lou Albano's rousing theme song. LABOR DAY 0936: Labor Day was invented in the late 19th century as a way for the US government to show American workers (especially union members) that the government loved and respected them. Nowadays most Americans mostly think of Labor Day as the last barbecue of summer, but there are a whole lot of great and funny songs about working, and we can't think of a better time to play them. Sure beats actually working! Our bonus track segment this week has even more Records About Records...lots of things that will never be on CD or even iTunes...and the "regular" part of the show has a couple of hidden bonuses for online listeners only: "The White Knight" is the extended version, three minutes longer, only released as a 45 rpm B-side...and "Genie, the Magic Record" has 2 1/2 minutes of extra magic. TOP TEN 0908: This week we salute the variable nature of friendship and un-friendship, the city of Los Angeles, cannabis, a new cult film and an old one, and -- of course -- the Top Ten for February. Our bonus segment features nine, count 'em, nine rare Spike Jones tracks. Feb 22, 2009

SHORT SONGS 0907: Every three years or so Dr. Demento gathers up some of the shortest songs in his archives. This time, as in 2005, he sequences them so that they get shorter and shorter as the show progresses, for an exhilarating rush to brevity. The opening song, Steve Martin's new "Late For School," has nothing to do with that. Neither does the online-only bonus segment, dedicated to Tiny Tim, and featuring a funny and revealing interview with Minnesota radio personality T. D. Mischke. Much of the interview is devoted to Tiny's unique approach to personal hygiene. (We'd rate it somewhere around PG-13). Feb 15, 2009

VALENTINE'S DAY 0906: Here's our celebration of Valentine's Day 2009...lots of old favorites plus some we haven't heard in awhile. You can also compare our two "kill the wabbit" songs back-to-back, featuring ace impressionists Darrell Hammond (of SNL fame) and Mark McCollum (as Ozzy Fudd). Our bonus segment introduces some worthy newer songs that are a bit too explicit for radio. They are unbleeped here and parental guidance is suggested; the last one is especially explicit. TRAINS 0905: All aboard for a show featuring one of Dr. D's favorite topics, trains. (He has been a railfan since age four, when he was in a nursery school overlooking a busy railroad track). Lots of hard to find items, especially in the "Rarities" online bonus segment. Feb 1, 2009

TOP TEN 0904: Here's our first monthly Top Ten for 2009! Other treats include a salute to Damaskas' Copycat Corner from 1979, prompted by a new book following the same M.O....and, in our online-only bonus segment, a track from each of the five albums nominated for the Grammy for Best Comedy Recording this year. PRESIDENTS 0903: The Dr. Demento Show goes all-Presidential! In honor of the inauguration of Barack Obama, and to help prepare him for the comedic zingers that are sure to come his way in the next four years, we offer a retrospective of the comedic abuse heaped upon several former Presidents, one soon-to-be-former President, and one would-be-President-elect. As with last week's Scandals show, many long-unavailable collector's items are included. Jan 18, 2009

SCANDALS 0902: Our Hour Two theme this week is "Scandals" - especially those involving powerful, wealthy and/or sexy people who behave in bizarre, distasteful or dishonest ways. Starring Britney, Michael, Jim & Tammy, Bill & Monica, and more. Many of the songs heard here are very hard to find today, having disappeared from the marketplace as their subject matter faded from the tabloid covers. This theme dovetails with next week's show, which celebrates the inauguration of Barack Obama with lots of songs and comedy bits about his predecessors and their scandals. Jan 11, 2009

EASY SONGS FOR HARD TIMES 0901: Our first show of 2009 spotlights the economy. We're calling it "Easy Songs For Hard Times." Along with songs inspired by the current SNAFU, I located some songs from the early 1930s when we were experiencing some very similar situations. Some of those songs are surprisingly cheerful! We could use a little of that cheer today. Jan 4, 2009

FUNNY 25 0852: And away we go with the Funny 25 for 2008....the 25 hottest and coolest songs of the year. Old and new, long and short, loud and soft, famous and infamous...nothing but the hits on this show! This week's "Rarities By Request" features some footnotes to the Funny 25 - "Robots" unbleeped, an earlier take of "Fish Heads," some 1980s work by Chris Mezzolesta of Power Salad, and, by popular demand, the original B-side of "They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-haa!" which is the same song backwards. CHRISTMAS/HANUKKAH #4 0851: With Christmas so close we can almost taste it, here's our final holiday show of 2008 -- with a hearty, hilarious helping of Hanukkah songs to spread the cheer around. All but three of the songs in this show are played for the first (and only) time this year. Once again we have an extended bonus tracks section, including a few items with explicit language. We've placed those at the end so that kids can cover their parents' ears at the appropriate time. Dec 21, 2008

CHRISTMAS #3 0850: Santa rides again (and has other strange experiences) in part 3 of our four-part Christmas Cavalcade of 2008. Lots of old favorites and a few very demented new things. I want to call special attention to the online-only bonus segment which has nine songs a bunch of people have asked for, that we just didn't have room for on the radio version this year. From now on the online-only segments will be transmitted at the end of the show (hope that's OK!) Dec 14, 2008

CHRISTMAS #2 0849: Here's show number two of our four-show holiday spectacular for 2008. Highlights include the ever-popular "Blue Christmas" (piggy style) by Seymour Swine & the Squeelers, "Ding! Fries are Done" by Billy from Burger King, and Robert Lund's stupendous new parody of the worst Christmas song ever, "The Christmas Shoes." And for our online listeners only...nothing nasty this time, just 20+ minutes of extreme rarities from way, way back in the Demento Archives. Dec 7, 2008
